Human Rights Commission Accepting Nominations for Annual Awards

barnstable county symbolBARNSTABLE – The Barnstable County Human Rights Commission is accepting nominations for two annual awards honoring those who have worked to improve human rights in the community.

The Cornerstone Award and the Rosenthal Award are given to individuals who have fostered and supported human rights, concepts and ideals.

The Rosenthal Award is given to an individual in the public sector who, in particular, has worked to advance human rights and eliminate discrimination against immigrants.

Nomination forms can be found at www.barnstablecounty.org/barnstable-county-human-rights-commission under the News & Events section.

The nominations are due by Friday, November 11 and may be submitted by email to [email protected] or mailed to Barnstable County Human Rights Commission, P.O. Box 427, Barnstable, MA 02630.

The awards are presented every year at the International Human Rights Day celebration. The breakfast event will be held on December, 10 at the Hyannis Golf Club and is open to the public. Reservations can be made by emailing [email protected].

Last year’s Cornerstone Award winner was Linda Alhart, the founder of Grandmothers Against Gun Violence. Julia C. Taylor, a Falmouth delegate to the Assembly of Delegates was presented the 2015 Rosenthal Award.
