HYANNIS PORT – Martin Sheen, Dan Aykroyd, Bill Murray and other public figures golfed with the wife and daughter of the late Robert F. Kennedy Friday during the annual RFK Human Rights Golf Tournament.

The event raised around $700,000 for RFK Human Rights, an organization which, according to its leader Ethel Kennedy, is currently campaigning for human rights in 28 countries, including the United States.

Ethel Kennedy’s daughter, Kerry, was in attendance and said that most of this year’s work focused on LGBT rights in Uganda and Africa and violence against women.

Actor Dan Aykroyd, famed for his roles in The Blues Brothers and Ghostbusters, said the human race needs to act on dire human suffering.

“The planet is in a state of roiling turmoil, and the Human Rights Foundation is active in places that really need focus in the way human beings are treated,” he said.

Actor Martin Sheen, who was in Apocalypse Now and the television show The West Wing, also commented on the work of the foundation.

“Robert Kennedy was a source of inspiration that we had never seen before, and that light that he lit leads us,” he said. “The only way we can realize ourselves is through other people, and the most involved people in human rights are right here.”

Over 150 guests took part in tournament this year. The event comes just a month before the foundation presents an award to Russian human rights activist Natalia Taubine.
