Humpback Whale Disentangled Off Provincetown

PROVINCETOWN – The Center For Coastal Studies in Provincetown disentangled a humpback whale on Cape Cod Bay Friday morning.

The center’s Marine Animal Entanglement Response team responded to an area just off Provincetown and found the whale with a buoy on the right side of its flank.

A line from the buoy was wrapped under the body, around the chin, over its back and down to a trap.

Officials said despite poor and worsening sea conditions, the team was able to cut the line between the buoy and the chin of the whale.

There was no entanglement visible when the whale surfaced again.

The CCS Humpback Whale Studies Program is attempting to identify the whale.
