Hy-Line Cruises Unveils Newest High Speed Ferry

grey ladyHYANNIS – The Hy-Line introduced its newest high speed ferry to the public Thursday afternoon.

The Grey Lady IV arrived in Hyannis on Wednesday night from Somerset where the $20 million vessel was built.

The 493 passenger ferry has three levels, travel up to 400 miles and has a maximum speed of 32 knots.

The ferry also features LCD TV’s, three cocktail bars, high quality seating and tables and a dedicated luggage room.

Lt. Governor Karyn Polito, U.S. Congressman Bill Keating, Barnstable State Representative Brian Mannal and Barnstable Town Manager Mark Ells toured the ship.

Polito said that the jobs created by the ship makes a big impact in the community.

“This is just an economic engine in itself, and that’s a lot to celebrate, especially in the work that we do to grow our blue economy,” said Polito.

Murray Scudder, Hy-Line Vice-President of Operations, thanked everyone for their support and said his family just wants to serve the community.

“We have a common philosophy and that’s figuring out what people want to do, they want to go fast to the islands now, and we just want to do it well, and that’s all we really want to do, and if you just keep your eye on that, the rest will take care of itself,” said Scudder.

The Grey Lady IV sailed to Nantucket after the Hyannis ceremony and held another public tour on the island.

The ferry replaces Hy-Line’s traditional slow ferry, Great Point, which carried up to 800 passengers.
