Hyannis BID Holds Annual Meeting

HYANNIS – The Hyannis Main Street Business Improvement District celebrated its accomplishments over the last year and looked to the future at its annual meeting Wednesday.

Business owners and area stakeholders gathered for breakfast at emBargo to present awards, elect officers and present a year-in-review.

Executive Director Elizabeth Wurfbain highlighted how the BID worked together with several local businesses to bring more jobs to the area, the installation of new information kiosks and the development of a capital campaign for year-round tree lighting.

“I’m very happy that our Trip Advisor is rated excellent and that it maintained that,” Wurfbain said. “People note that we constantly get Trip Advisor comments that say it is so improved.”

Wurfbain said they are also hiring a tenant consultant that will conduct an analysis of Main Street.

“He’s already been here twice and he’s done some research,” Wurfbain said. “We have had a merchant meeting inviting all the merchant’s on Main Street to give their input as to in the future how we can be more vital.”

Wurfbain was also happy with Cape Cod Healthcare creating 200 jobs at Cape Cod Hospital, and the dozens of new apartments coming to downtown.

She said the new kiosks improve the Main Street streetscape and links it to the areas historic locations.

Over the next year, the BID will continue to work to get year-round tree lighting on Main Street, and expand the Community Service Officer partnership with Barnstable Police.

Wurfbain also wants to see a larger Long Table event.

“I want to see a Long Table in the street instead of in an alley,” she said. “And I want it to be expanded and really make a huge statement for Hyannis and have everyone come from all over the state.”

Wurfbain said the BID is also working to bring a welcome center to downtown Hyannis and that funding is currently being discussed by state legislators.
