Hyannis Gang Leader Sentenced to Life in Prison for Rest Area Murder

BARNSTABLE – A Hyannis man and former leader of the Nauti-Block gang has been sentenced to life in prison in the death of a woman whose body was found at a highway rest area.

Denzel Chisholm pleaded guilty Monday in Barnstable Superior Court to murder and kidnapping charges.

Chisholm will not be eligible for parole in the deal he made with prosecutors.

Chisholm was one of three people indicted in the stabbing and shooting death of 28-year-old Christine Ferreira.

Authorities say Ferreira was killed in a Route 6 rest area in retaliation for testifying against another alleged gang member, Browning Mejia.

Her body was found in September 2015 in between exits 6 and 7. Prosecutors said she was stabbed by Chisholm 30 times and shot  six times.

Chisholm’s sister, Shannelle, pleaded guilty Monday to a charge of conspiracy after her murder charge was dropped. She was placed on two years probation after spending the last 574 days in jail.

A third suspect awaits trial.

Chisholm pleaded guilty in part to spare his sister from a more harsh punishment. He was sentenced to nearly 30 years in prison last month for gang-related drug charges.
