Hyannis Harbor Hawks Field Renovation to Begin

HYANNIS – Officials with the Hyannis Harbor Hawks and the Cape Cod Baseball League broke ground Thursday as part of stage one of a new field upgrade project last night in Barnstable.

The rehabilitation of the ‘Judy Walden Scarafile Field’ in honor of the former long serving Cape League President, will include the excavation of the entire playing field, the installation of anew drainage and irrigation system, and more.

“This has been long in the works lead by the Harbor Hawks in coordination, and cooperation with the Town,” said Barnstable Town Manager Mark Ells.

The work will be done thanks to a $700,000 grant provided by the Barnstable Town Council and the Community Preservation Committee.

This rehabilitation “just underscores the wonderful relationship the Harbor Hawks have with the Town of Barnstable and that has made the difference,” said Scarafile.

“Without that incredible partnership that we started in January, we wouldn’t be here, and we probably couldn’t play on the field next year if it were not fixed,” she said.

The need for funding for this project however has not come to an end, as the league is still in search of donors to replace the two dugouts with state-of-the- art structures, as the work for that project would not fall under the allotment provided by the town.

Renovations on the field itself will begin in mid- August and be ready for the 2019 season.
