Hyannis Main Street to Close for Cars, Open for Pedestrians on Sunday

KA_Hyannis_Welcome Historic Main street sign_11315HYANNIS – Visitors to Hyannis Main Street will be able to walk on the road on Sunday without having to dodge vehicles.

The Greater Hyannis Civic Association presents “Hyannis Open Streets”, which will offer free entertainment, alongside opportunities to exercise, shop and learn.

“The overall goal is to create a sense of community and to have a great deal of fun, meet our neighbors and experience a beautiful fall day on Cape Cod,” said Greater Hyannis Civic Association President Deb Krau.

The event takes place from noon to 5 pm. and Main Street between Ocean Street to Sea Street will be closed to traffic.

All of the street’s shops and restaurants will be open for their regular hours and many are planning special outdoor offerings.

The Cape’s first Open Streets event will feature activity hubs where strollers can stop to try a dance routine, stretch for a yoga class, have their blood pressure checked or watch a dramatic performance.

“It’s a wonderful event for the shoulder seasons and we would hope that we can build on this success and hold it in September, October, April, May and June,” said Krau.

The event will also take place concurrently with LoveLocal Fest at Aselton Park on Hyannis Harbor.
