hyannis-village-christmas-strollHYANNIS – The holiday season in Hyannis kicks off Saturday with the Hyannis Village Christmas Stroll.

The stroll, which is presented by the Hyannis Main Street Business Improvement District, The Greater Hyannis Chamber of Commerce, The Greater Hyannis Civic Association and the HyArts District, will feature activities throughout the day on Main Street and along the waterfront.

Hyannis Main Street Business Improvement District Executive Director Elizabeth Wurfbain says the community is drawn to the event.

“It’s about neighborliness and I think people love that. They love being on Cape Cod,” Wurfbain said. “That’s why they come here and that’s why all the second homeowners flock back for Thanksgiving and Christmas because it is nice to see your neighbors and to have hot chocolate outside.”

The stroll kicks off in the morning with 9 and 10:30 a.m. seatings for Breakfast with Santa at the British Beer Company. Tickets for the event are $8 each and must be purchased in advance. The proceeds from the breakfast go to Cape Cod Child Development.

The 9th annual Spectacle of Trees will also be underway at the JFK Hyannis Museum. The museum will feature 19 trees that will be raffled off with the proceeds going to local nonprofit organizations. Viewing and bidding for the event will run from Friday through Saturday, December 10.

A gingerbread house decorating event will be held from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. at Palio’s Pizzeria. The event is free but a donation for Cape Cod Toys for Tots is required to participate. The event will also feature Santa Claus.

The Sturgis High School Jam Band will perform throughout the afternoon. The band will perform electronic and rock versions of classic holiday songs from noon to 2 p.m. in front of the school. The Barnstable High school band will also play at 2 p.m. in front of the First Baptist Church.

The free activities throughout the day include the annual Cookie Stroll Contest and Santa’s Reindeer Roundup scavenger hunt. Attendees will also be able to sample food from several restaurants.

The stroll provides several activities for children, including a petting zoo, face painting, and arts and crafts projects throughout the street.

Attendees will be able to get around downtown with free Duck Mobile and Trolley rides.

“We love to be together and the Main Streets really help to pull that atmosphere and charm into focus and I think that’s why people are drawn to these strolls,” Wurfbain said.
