Hyannis Water Works Project Begins This Fall

water pipe5HYANNIS – The Town of Barnstable Department of Public Works’ Water Supply Division will be starting a water works construction project this fall that will improve the water quality and fire flows for customers of the Hyannis Water System.

This project will rehabilitate the current 16 inch water main on Camp Street and Mary Dunn Way by a cleaning and cement mortar lining process.

Included in the project are the replacement of valves, fire hydrants and customer water services up to the property line.

A temporary water bypass system will be installed to maintain a continuous supply of water during this project.

The major work is anticipated to be done this fall with final paving to be completed in the spring of 2015.

Eventually this project will continue across the airport and along Mary Dunn Road to the water storage tanks near Route 6.

Camp Street will be closed to through traffic during the work but local access will be allowed.

There may be brief periods of water service interruption in the area and prior to any anticipated service interruption, residents will be given 48 hours notice by the contractor.

The specific notices will be distributed to the residents affected by shut-downs, indicating time and day of each shut-down.
