Hyannis Woman Found Shot and Stabbed in Rest Area Testified in Hyannis Shooting Trial

rest areaHYANNIS – The person found shot and stabbed to death early Saturday at the Route 6 rest area in Barnstable Saturday has been identified as a Hyannis woman.

District Attorney Michael O’Keefe says the victim was 28-year-old Christine Ferreira of Hyannis.

The preliminary autopsy results showed Ferreira died from multiple stabbing injuries and gunshot wounds. The state medical examiner is still investigating.

O’Keefe said the case “remains under active investigation” by state police assigned to the district attorney’s office and Barnstable police.

Ferreira’s body was found at about 4 a.m. in the rest area on the eastbound section of the highway between Exits 6 and 7.

She offered critical testimony four years ago in a Hyannis shooting. Ferreira’s testimony was used by the prosecution to link Browning Mejia to a 2009 shooting on Pontiac Street.

The jury ended up convicting Mejia in the 2011 trial. He was sentenced to ten years in prison and his conviction was upheld earlier this month.
