BOSTON – In order to keep New England ports open for commerce, the Coast Guard is getting the ice breaking season underway this week.
75 percent of all oil used in the United States travels through New England waterways, with an average of 300 vessels transiting the Hudson River carrying 10 million barrels of oil to New England Communities, the ice breaking operations will run through March.
