WELLFLEET – The Wellfleet Bay Wildlife Sanctuary is hosting a search for Diamondback Terrapins event on June 16.
Join the Sanctuary as they search for the terrapins, a threatened species turtle that lives in our salt marshes.
Participants will start off inside with an introduction to the fascinating species then head outside for a walk along sanctuary trails in search of nesting turtles.
Participants will learn about turtle biology, natural history, and conservation.
Pre-registration is required for the event and all participants under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult.
Participants are asked to wear closed-toed walking shoes and long pants and to arrive and check in at least 10 minutes before the start of the program.
The cost for the event is $9 for children and adults who are members of the Sanctuary and $11 for non-members.
Wellfleet Bay provides peace and beauty on the hillsides and shoreline overlooking Wellfleet Harbor.
The extensive trails bring people to a panoramic salt marsh, sandy barrier beach, and pine woodlands, each attracting a wide array of wildlife.
The sanctuary features a universally accessible trail and an award-winning “green” nature center with numerous exhibits and aquariums.
