NANTUCKET – The Nantucket Historical Association (NHA) has announced two screenings of Academy Award-winning director Ron Howard’s film In the Heart of the Sea, a film adaptation of Nantucket author Nathaniel Philbrick’s best-selling book, on Sunday and on August 21 at the Whaling Museum.
The story of Ron Howard’s Hollywood adaptation In the Heart of the Sea explores the tale of the ill-fated Nantucket whaleship Essex which was stove by a whale in the Pacific Ocean in 1820, and later inspired Herman Melville’s classic Moby-Dick.
The film stars Chris Hemsworth as the Essex’s first mate Owen Chase, Benjamin Walker as Captain George Pollard, Cillian Murphy as second mate Matthew Joy, and Ben Wishaw as novelist Herman Melville.
Tom Holland also stars as the young cabin boy Thomas Nickerson, and Brendan Gleeson as the same man, thirty years later.
Tickets for this screening are $10 per person and advanced registration is recommended at nha.org.
