Independence House Asking for Shower Gifts for New Shelter

HYANNIS – Independence House has been awarded a 10 year contract by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health to offer a confidential emergency Domestic and Sexual Violence Shelter for survivors who need to leave their living situations to assure their safety.

The organization is working to get things ready for the first guests in October and are looking for some help from the community in making them feel comfortable.

Independence House is asking that you take part in their “Shelter Shower” to meet a portion of the needs of the new facility. According to the non-profit, these contributions will directly support individuals and families who are in immediate crisis and fleeing to find safety.

Officials at Independence House have set up registries at local and online retailers including Bed Bath and Beyond, Wayfair.com, and Best Buy.

They will also be hosting a “Shelter Shower” reception on Saturday September 16th at CapeSpace on Independence Drive in Hyannis. Gifts may be dropped off there from 2 to 4 PM. Light refreshments will also be served.
