HYANNIS – Through a competitive process, Independence House in Hyannis has been invited by the Allstate Foundation to participate in the 2015 Purple Purse Challenge.

The challenge started October 1 and runs until October 27 and is an online-only campaign with opportunities for donors to help increase their donations with challenges and contests and an overall chance of winning up to $100,000 by the end of the 27 days.

“We are one of 162 domestic violence agencies nationwide that are competing against each other to raise money in hopes that we’ll win a very big prize,” said Independence House spokeswoman Donna Giberti.

The goal to participate in the challenge is to raise funds for the Independence House Economic Empowerment Program.

That program helps domestic violence survivors fight poverty and take control of their financial lives through individualized financial plans, education and support.

Giberti said Independence House is busy throughout the year.

“Over the course of the year, our numbers are really high,” said Giberti. “Our numbers are in the high thousands. We see teens, we see adults, we see men, women, we see senior citizens and we see children who are affected by domestic violence as well.”
