BOSTON – A South Yarmouth woman was honored this week at the State House as a 2016 Unsung Heroine Award recipient.

Christine Morin received the award Wednesday for her work for Independence House in Hyannis, which provides services for individuals and families confronting domestic and sexual violence.

“Chris has been the face of Independence House to numerous organizations Cape-wide most notably in her role as the Prevention, Education and Outreach Coordinator for the past five years,” Independence House said in a statement. “Chris has been instrumental in creating and maintaining tremendous collaborations with key organizations on Cape Cod in the work we do to prevent and address domestic and sexual violence.

The organization said she has also helped hundreds of survivors as a domestic violence and sexual assault counselor.

Morin was nominated for the award by State Representative Timothy Whalen.
