BOURNE – Barnstable County Sheriff inmates are helping to build a new bathhouse, showers and restrooms at Bourne Scenic Park.
The infusion of inmate labor will save the Bourne Recreation Authority (BRA) around $32,000.
Six months ago another inmate crew demolished the old bathhouse at the same site.
The savings will enable the Authority to make additional enhancements to the properties it runs.
The mix of RV, tent, cabin and lodge site rentals makes a significant amount of money for the BRA.
Since its inception in 1952, the campground has doubled in size.
The land itself is leased from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
