Intergenerational Model UN to Inspire Youth and Elderly Alike

MAPAYARMOUTH – A special event for 25 Dennis-Yarmouth Regional and Cape Cod Academy high school students will bring multiple generations together to learn about how the world works.

The Intergenerational Model United Nations Project on October 15th will tap the valuable experience and wisdom of the elderly involved to round out the students’ educational experience, according to Yarmouth Senior Services Director Kathi Bailey.

But it will also provide the seniors an opportunity to learn, too, she said.

“This gives the community a chance to see how people of great knowledge and depth work on international relations and conversations,” Bailey said.

The students will be expected to work within the United Nations’ format to tackle the question of: “what’s the status of water in your country?”

Bailey said that Model UN clubs are typically only found in higher income communities, and that currently the only other school on Cape Cod to offer it is Sturgis Charter.

The public is invited to observe the event at the Yarmouth Senior Center from 1 to 4 p.m.

But they must attend the full session and refrain from making any sort of interruption to the proceedings.
