BARNSTABLE – Town officials in Barnstable are interviewing candidates this week as they look to fill an opening on the town’s school committee.

A Town Council and School Committee subcommittee has been interviewing 10 applicants. Two finalists will then advance to a public interview before a joint meeting of the two boards on February 1.

A final decision is expected that night.

The applicants for the seat are Peter Bertling, Marc Brunco, Barbara Dunn, Michael Edwards, Paula Hersey, Edith LaBran, Timothy Lizotte, Heather Malkani, Nora Monteiro, and James Ruane.
The four-year term is open after Margeaux Weber resigned from her seat on the committee just hours after taking office for a third term in December. Weber was unopposed in her re-election bid in November.

Weber spent 8 years on the board and served as its chairwoman for 6 of those years.

She mounted an unsuccessful campaign for State Representative in the 2nd Barnstable District in 2016, losing to Cotuit resident Aaron Kanzer in the Democratic primary. Kanzer was defeated by incumbent State Rep. Will Crocker (R-Centerville) in the general election.
