Islamic Group Hacks Mass Maritime Website

computer screenBUZZARDS BAY – An Islamic group hacked into the Massachusetts Maritime Academy website last night and again today.

Users of the Mass Maritime website were directed to a “mirror site” page showing a US soldier’s grave in the desert with a white cross and a man chanting in Arabic.

Mass Maritime President Admiral Richard Gurnan said the group did not compromise any of the college’s data but did succeed in spreading their “message of hate,” as he put it.

He said the unfortunate thing is the group is succeeding to getting their message out from 35 yesterday to 816 by the afternoon today.

The data breach was repaired Monday, but Admiral Gurnon said the site was breached again today and so it was taken down in order to more thoroughly deal with the hacking problem.

The off-campus access to the site is still blocked while the firewall for the site is being used.
