CHATHAM – It feels a lot like the 1980’s in Chatham this week, as a series of fundraisers tied to the blockbuster movie “Back to the Future” raise money for Parkinson’s Research.

Chatham Inn at 359 Main owner Jeff Ippoliti came up with the idea for “Back to the Future Week” to benefit the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research.

One of the highlights was Wednesday night at the Chatham Orpheum Theater with actor Christopher Lloyd, who played Doc Brown in the iconic movie.

Lloyd praised Fox for all the work he’s done to fight the disease.

“I think it’s extraordinary given the condition he has dealing with Parkinson’s, that he’s done so much to go out and create his foundation,” said Lloyd.

A screening of Back to the Future was followed by a question and answer session with Lloyd and Bob Gale, who produced the movie, which has stood the test of time.

“It’s just some magic in the mix, it’s a wonderful cast, if I may say so, beautifully directed,” said Lloyd.

Future - 2Ippoliti first got involved in raising money for charities when he organized a Make A Wish event in Florida.

In addition to the movie screening, Ippoliti and his wife are hosting gourmet wine dinners at their inn, with all the proceeds going to Fox’s foundation.

“Great people, great food, great friends. But the most important thing is that we’re raising money for the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research,” he said.

The second and final dinner is scheduled for Thursday night.

Two Delorean vehicles, made famous by Fox and his movie character, Marty McFly, are also on display across the town throughout the week. People can take pictures inside the vehicles for a donation to the charity.
