High Speed Vessel Iyanough Problem Discovered

HYANNIS – The issue that took the M/V Iyanough, the Steamship Authority’s high speed ferry to and from Nantucket, out of service has been identified as a missing O ring.

One of the vessel’s four engines was taken to a repair facility in Connecticut for evaluation where the problem was discovered last week.

The O ring was apparently not replaced after the engines were recently overhauled and allowed oil to flow back into the crank case which set off low oil warnings on the bridge.

The Iyanough is expected to be put back in service later this week after the rings are installed on the affected engines and after sea trials with the Coast Guard.
