BARNSTABLE- Jet Blue has officially kicked off the summertime season here on Cape Cod with its inaugural flight out of New York’s JFK Airport right here to Barnstable Municipal Airport.
“The numbers coming in were awesome, 94 passengers came in on a 100 passenger plane, so that is pretty good,” says Barnstable Municipal General Manager Bud Breault.
“Just the mere fact that they are bringing people into the airport is putting life back into the airport. It is like a terminal again. Our numbers have been dropping and it is wonderful to see this happening,” says Breault.
This year the popular flights will run Fridays and Saturdays from June 1st through June 10th before running on a daily schedule from June 14th through Labor Day, ending on September 4th.
“I think that we are getting the word out that we have a market here and we would like to get more flights to come in more frequently to just prove that the market is here. It is a wonderful way to get to New York and back,” says Breault.
The airport would also like to inform people that if they are to continue on to Nantucket from Barnstable during this season, Cape Air, Nantucket Airlines, and Rectrix Shuttle will be offering passenger’s coverage to the Islands.
