JFK Hyannis Museum Debuts New JFK Jr. Exhibit

HYANNIS – The John F. Kennedy Hyannis Museum unveiled a new exhibit Monday that celebrates the life and times of John F. Kennedy Jr.

“Cape Cod Remembers JFK Jr.” commemorates the life of President Kennedy’s son and his connection to Cape Cod through photographs, video, quotes, texts, and artifacts.

A media preview and press conference kicked off the opening of the exhibit with former U.S. Senator Paul Kirk as the featured speaker.

Kirk, appointed to fill the vacancy created by the death of Ted Kennedy, served as a United States Senator from Massachusetts from 2009 to 2010.

“The Kennedy Family spent so many years where this was the anchor of their heart and home during times of sadness and times of joy and seasonally for summer months, coming to relax and enjoy the beauty of Cape Cod,” said Kirk.

The exhibit is arranged chronologically and features images and video footage, some rarely seen, of JFK Jr. alone, and also with his father, his mother, Jackie, and sister, Caroline.

Kennedy’s adult life, including his marriage to Carolyn Bessette to the launch of “George”, his glossy lifestyle-political magazine are also heavily featured throughout the exhibit.

“We felt it was important as the John F. Kennedy Hyannis Museum to do a commemorative exhibit of John f. Kennedy Jr and to tell about his boyhood, to show new images that people haven’t seen before, to talk a lot about and show a lot of his adult life and his wedding, and his George Magazine launch and then to bring it back to Cape Cod,” said exhibit curator and museum co-founder Rebecca Pierce-Merrick said,

“John Jr. captivated the world, but he had a special connection to the Cape,” said JFK Hyannis Museum President John Allen.

“This exhibit is a rare opportunity for visitors to see never-before-seen images and video of JFK Jr.”

The commemorative exhibit invites visitors to remember John F. Kennedy Jr. who, like his uncle, the late Senator Edward Kennedy at his funeral, “had every gift but length of years.”

In addition to “Cape Cod Remembers JFK Jr.,” the museum offers two other exhibits: “Creating Camelot: The Kennedy Photography of Jacques Lowe,” which features intimate images of John F. Kennedy and his family; and “JFK at 100: Life & Legacy,” an inspirational journey that takes visitors through various milestones of the 35th president’s life, with a focus on the years he spent on Cape Cod.

The exhibit coincides with the 20th anniversary of JFK Jr.’s death.
