JFK Hyannis Museum Taking Part in Nationwide National Anthem Event

KA_Hyannis_JFK museum2_11315HYANNIS – The John F. Kennedy Hyannis Museum will take part in a nationwide organized effort Friday to gather and sing the national anthem in unison.

The Barnstable High School Choir will perform the Star Bangled Banner at the museum in Main Street Hyannis. The event begins at noon, with the singing of the anthem at 1 p.m. The event is free and open to the public and visitors are welcome to participate.

Schools and other public sites nationwide are organizing similar events as part of the American Public Education Foundation’s “Star-Spangled Banner Movement.” Organizers say they hope the event serves to teach the meaning and history of the national anthem.

The movement started in 2013 and is held during the second week of September every year to coincide with the upcoming anniversary of the 9/11 attacks of the birthday of the National Anthem, which was written by Francis Scott Key on September 14, 1814 during the Battle of Fort McHenry in Baltimore.
