PLYMOUTH – A former New England Patriot is holding an event next week to help those battling cancer.

The 7th annual Joe Andruzzi and Friends Golf Tournament tees off Monday at the Pinehills in Plymouth. The tournament benefits the Joe Andruzzi Foundation, a non-profit organization providing financial and emotional support to cancer patients and their families.

Andruzzi won three Super Bowls protecting Tom Brady as an offensive lineman, and founded the organization after losing a family friend to cancer. Andruzzi himself was diagnosed with cancer in 2008.

“We now have helped over 4,000 families with mortgage, rent, utilities, and many things that are sometimes forgotten about when you’re caring for a loved one,” Andruzzi said.

The tournament raised over $250,000 dollars last year and has raised over $1 million since its inception.

A number of current and former Patriots players will be playing, including Tedy Bruschi, Sebastian Vollmer, Nate Solder, Dan Koppen, Jerod Mayo, and Danny Amendola. A number of Patriots coaches and personnel, including former offensive line coach Dante Scarnecchia, will also be participating.

“We’re looking forward to raising a lot of money so we can help families and individuals that are battling cancer through the toughest times of their life,” Andruzzi said.

The tournament starts at 8 a.m. at the Pinehills Golf Club in Plymouth on June 29. For more information or to register, visit JoeAndruzziFoundation.org
