Joint Base Cape Cod Hosting Regional Cooperation 2016

JBCCBOURNE – More than 200 U.S. and foreign military personnel are at Joint Base Cape Cod this week for a command-post exercise at Camp Edwards.

Regional Cooperation 2016 is a U.S. Central Command conducted and Joint Staff supported command post regional exercise for the Central and South Asia states.

The Armed Forces of Pakistan, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, Kazakhstan and Tajikistan are participating in the exercise, alongside U.S. forces.

“It’s a fascinating opportunity to work with soldiers from across the world, all of whom are highly dedicated and focused on working together towards this peacekeeping mission,” said Massachusetts Army National Guard Col. George Harrington.

The exercise provides participating nations with the opportunity to promote cooperation, build functional capacity, practice peacekeeping operations and enhance readiness.

The scenarios in the exercise are meant to gauge the participants’ responses during a global peacekeeping operation.

The scenarios are expected to enhance the participants’ ability to prepare for and participate in peacekeeping operations under international authority.

“This is a tremendous opportunity for those of us from the United States, from Tajikistan and from Kyrgyzstan, to leverage their experience and to make this a better exercise,” said Col. Harrington.

The exercise started in 2004 and Camp Edwards last hosted it in 2014.

Last year’s exercise was held in Dushanbe, Tajikistan.
