Lt. Governor Praises Saquatucket Harbor Improvement Project

HARWICH PORT – Lieutenant Governor Karyn Polito was in Harwich Port Tuesday to participate in a ceremony marking the completion of the Landside Renovation Project and the East Dock Replacement Project at Saquatucket Harbor.

In 2016, Harwich received $1 million from the Seaport Economic Council for the East Dock project. The town was awarded another grant of $1 million in 2017 for the landside project.

Polito praised the Council for their work over the last few years.

“Rather than just thinking about one-off investments in projects, and thinking then more about an investment in the economy: the investment in that community as an economy, the regional economy, and the blue economy of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts,” Polito said.

Along with the economic potential of this project, Polito also emphasized the improved safety of the port.

“When you have different uses within a harbor this size, being able to accommodate the public safety and emergency response features here is really important,” Polito said.

Polito was joined by Cape and Island State Senator Julian Cyr, Fouth Barnstable State Representative Sarah Peake and other local officials.
