HARWICH – The Association to Preserve Cape Cod (APCC) staff will lead a kayak tour of the Muddy Creek estuary to discuss the ecological benefits and observe the visible effects of this recently completed tidal restoration project.
The event will be held on Wednesday, September 6 at 1:30 p.m.
Participants and organizers will meet and park at Pleasant Bay Community Boating on Route 28 in Harwich.
Participants are asked to dress appropriately for water sports for September on Cape Cod with proper sun protection and footwear for water.
Upon arriving at the PBCB parking area, everyone will be driven over to Jackknife Beach where parking is limited.
The tour will begin at Jackknife Beach on the southern shore of Big Pleasant Bay where tour leaders will discuss basic sea kayaking technique and trip logistics.
Once on the water, everyone will paddle beneath the Route 28 bridge into the Muddy Creek estuary.
As participants paddle, leaders will discuss the restoration project and will observe the effects it is having on the aquatic and adjacent wetland and upland habitat.
The tour will take everyone to the far reaches of Muddy Creek as participants look for wildlife and observe the beautiful natural surroundings before reversing direction and concluding back at Jackknife Beach.
