Keating Calls for Additional Low Income Energy Funding

William Richard Keating

WASHINGTON – Massachusetts 9th District Congressman Bill Keating is calling for additional funding for the Low Income Home Energy Assistance program ahead of the winter.

Last week, Keating was one of 96 representatives to send a letter to the office of Health and Human Services asking for the highest amount of Fiscal Year 2018 funds available be used for the program this year.

“[The Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program] is a critical safety net for low-income families, our elderly, our veterans, and those living with disabilities,” the letter read. “Throughout the country, people rely on LIHEAP assistance to help them pay for their utility through hot summers and cold winters, especially when faced with financial difficulties.”

“[The Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program] can mean the difference between life and death for many people across the country, especially households with seniors or children,” Keating said. “As we quickly approach the colder weather months, it is imperative that we release the maximum amount of funds available for this program so we not only alleviate some of the burden of high energy costs for our families, but also provide critical assistance to countless Americans suffering from the effects of the recent hurricanes.”
