Keating Concerned with One of Trump’s Top Picks for FBI Director

HYANNIS – Democrats are voicing their concerns with one of President Donald Trump’s top picks for FBI Director.

Trump had said recently that he was “very close” to naming a replacement and that former Connecticut Senator Joe Lieberman was among his top choices.

Congressman William Keating said that he believes there are better options for the top FBI position.

“I think Joe Lieberman is viewed as very political for obvious reasons, it doesn’t mean he wouldn’t do the job well, but if we can have another choice that doesn’t have as much political emphasis, I think, is better for the country,” said Keating.

The President did not announce his pick before leaving on Friday on his first foreign trip.

Keating said that he and his colleagues in the Democratic Party want the right person for the FBI Director job.

“We’re saying look, that’s get politics deemphasized, at least here in such an important role and that’s go in that direction and I’d rather see the appointment go in that direction frankly,” said Keating.

Trump fired former FBI Director James Comey on May 9.
