Keating: ‘Discussions Invite Progress’ on North Korea Nukes

William Richard Keating

WASHINGTON – Cape Cod’s congressman is responding to the news that President Donald Trump will meet North Korean leader Kim Jong Un by May.

In a statement, Bill Keating (D-Bourne) praised the sanctions that have been levied against the North and said the sanctions should remain in effect for the foreseeable future.

“Discussions invite progress,” Keating said. “The U.S. and our allies must be clear in our goal of denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula, which includes verification. It is clear sanctions are having positive effects and thus imperative these sanctions continue until concrete results are in place.”

Keating is the top Democrat on the Terrorism, Nonproliferation, and Trade Subcommittee, a key House panel overseeing the North Korean nuclear issue.
