WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman William Keating has introduced legislation that would exempt returning workers from the federal H-2B visa cap.
The bill would allow workers who received an H-2B visa in fiscal years 2014, 2015 and 2016 to not count towards the 66,000 limit through the end of September.
“H-2B workers provide a critical service for seasonal businesses across the country in communities like Cape Cod,” Keating said.
According to Keating, many of the workers return to the same businesses year after year and are welcomed back by employers and customers.
“These workers who have long-standing relationships with their employer should be exempt from the current statutory H-2B cap until there is a permanent solution for addressing the worker shortages experienced by these businesses every year,” Keating said. “Without this exemption, many of our businesses will fall short of the employees they need to operate at full capacity.”
Keating introduced the legislation with Congressman Jack Bergman (R-MI).
Last year, Keating worked with the Department of Labor to resolve H-2B visa processing delays.
