HYANNIS – Incumbent Democrat Bill Keating (D) will be returning to Washington to represent the Ninth Congressional District, handily defeating challenger Mark Alliegro (R).
Keating won re-election garnering 158,301 votes, compared to Alliegro’s 96,803, with a few precincts still left to report.
While thanking supporters, the Congressman said a difference-maker in the race was his campaign that was based on issues, not polarizing politics.
“It wasn’t sensational, the way that the rest of this campaign transpired nationally, but it’s the reason I think that we were able to be as successful as we were tonight and get the support of people that we did,” Keating said.
Upon returning to Washington, Keating said he will focus on a number of issues, including economic growth, job creation and national security.
It was Alliegro’s second run against Keating.
