Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival Returns to CCCC

WEST BARNSTABLE – The 51st Annual Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival (Region One) will convene at Cape Cod Community College and local conference venues January 29th – February 2nd.

This prestigious festival brings together over 1,000 students and faculty from dozens of colleges and universities throughout the region to see some of the area’s strongest productions and participate in workshops and theater programs.

Festival attendees will participate in over 100 workshops, lectures and discussions on topics such as “Yoga & Mindfulness for Theatre Artists,” “Illusions of Violence,” “21st Century Stage Make-up,” “Wrestling Performance,” working with dialects, starting a non-profit production company and more.

This year, the first of three years that CCCC will serve as host college, Obie Award winning playwright, Kirsten Greenidge, will present the Keynote address on Tuesday, January 29th, at 7:30pm in the Grand Ballroom at the Resort and Conference Center at Hyannis.

Faculty and students from CCCC will be participating in Festival activities. Raven Clarke, student scenic designer for the 4Cs theater production of “Dead Man’s Cell Phone” in Fall 2018, will present his design concepts for the production, drawings, and processes to invited theater design professionals from throughout the region. Faculty member Elizabeth Rapoza will present Backyard Dramatics, a workshop on youth theatre. Vana Trudeau, Tilden Arts Center Coordinator, is a KCATCF Regional Co-Vice Chair and Chair, Arts Management & Administration, and represents CCCC on the Leadership Board.

Other highlights of the festival include the fully staged invited productions from area colleges. This year’s invited productions include:

“Stupid F##king Bird” (Northern Essex Community College) – Wednesday, January 30, Tilden Arts Center, Cape Cod Community College 1:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m.

“Pluto” (Eastern Connecticut State University) – Wednesday, January 30, Tilden Arts Center, Cape Cod Community College 8:00 p.m.

“Uncle Vanya” (Western Connecticut State University) – Thursday, January 31, Tilden Arts Center, Cape Cod Community College 1:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m.
