Kentucky Derby Gala Raises Money for Cotuit Center for the Arts

GF_CotuitCenterArts_031016COTUIT – The Cotuit Center for the Arts will host its Third Annual Kentucky Derby Gala on May 7 from 3 to 7 p.m.

The event includes opportunities for betting—with 50 percent of the proceeds benefiting CCFTA, live horses, a hat parade, a buffet dinner, and surprise events, all culminating in a viewing of the Derby itself on the center’s big screen.

Last year, the event attracted 150 participants and raised over $8,000 for the center.

“This is a really fun and festive gathering, one of our signature events of the season,” said executive director David Kuehn. “We had a lot of old friends and many new faces last year. It’s rewarding to see people enjoying the center and discovering all the arts and cultural events we have to offer.”

The event features photo ops with the horses, fancifully decorated hats, and real mint juleps to bring all the excitement of the Kentucky Derby to Cotuit.

There will be varied ways to bet on the races, including $5 and a $10 raffles, a First-Second-Third betting pool, and a Horse Auction, in which each of the horses running will be “auctioned off.”

The owner of the winning horse takes home half the total bet.

Participants will be invited to pose with the horses and take photos.

All are encouraged to wear fabulous and festive Kentucky Derby-style hats.

There will be awards for the best hats.

Tickets are $20 for adults and children under 12 are free.
