Killer Queen Concert to Benefit Independence House, Cape Cod Synagogue

HYANNIS – The UK’s premier Queen Tribute Band will be making a stop on Cape Cod next week during its summer US tour for a concert benefiting Independence House and the Cape Cod Synagogue.

Killer Queen will perform Tuesday night at the Barnstable Performing Arts Center in Hyannis for the 3rd annual benefit concert for the two organizations.

Independence House Director of Development & Marketing Donna Giberti said the concert is an enormous benefit for both organizations.

“As many people know, Independence House is a domestic and sexual violence organization that provides services to all members of our community and those services are free,” Giberti said. “While we do get funding we are actually obligated to match a lot of that funding.”

Cape Cod Synagogue, which is a Jewish Reformed Synagogue in Hyannis, also works to support families in need across the region.

“They do enormous things for people who need help throughout the Cape and they support the interfaith community tremendously as well,” Giberti said.

Giberti said the organizations were fortunate the timing of the concert matched up with the tribute band’s schedule as Queen’s popularity has skyrocketed since the release of the film “Bohemian Rhapsody” last fall.

The film was nominated for five Academy Awards, including Best Motion Picture. It won four Oscars, including Best Actor for Rami Malek, who portrayed Freddie Mercury. Other wins included Best Achievement in Film Editing, Best Achievement in Sound Editing and Best Achievement in Sound Mixing.

“We are excited. People love Queen music,” Giberti said. “Their songs are making a comeback and you probably hear them all over the radio and on commercials these days.”

Giberti said the audience will love the performance of Patrick Myers, who portrays Freddie Mercury for Killer Queen.

“He is spot on as Freddie Mercury, both in visuals and in voice,” Giberti said. “People will be astonished.”

Giberti said limited seats are still available and expects the show to sell out.

“If you are not going to get your tickets in the next few days you may not get tickets,” she said.

General admission tickets are $40 online and can be purchased at killerqueen.brownpapertickets.com.

Sponsors for the benefit concert include Wendy’s, Cape Air, The Barnstable County Sheriff’s Office, Hatfield Cardiology, Cape Cod 5, Cape Destinations, and Ocean 104.7/Cape Cod Broadcasting Media.

British Beer Company is also offering ticket holders 10 percent off their meal on the day of the concert.
