Koval Will Continue to be Held Without Bail

FALMOUTH – 21 year old Malik Koval, of East Falmouth, the accused shooter of two Falmouth police officers, was in Falmouth District Court yesterday for a dangerousness hearing, he will continue to be held after an agreement was reached between the District Attorney’s office and lawyers for Koval. In addition, Koval was determined to be a danger and will be held without bail for up to 120 days.

Koval has been held without bail since his arrest July 27 on charges of two counts each of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, assault and battery on a police officer, and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon as well as one count each of carrying a loaded firearm without a license, disturbing the peace and resisting arrest.

The charges stem from events on June 27 where police allege that when they responded to a disturbance on Ashley Drive in Falmouth, Koval refused commands.

While two officers were tied up with two relatives of Koval, who have also been charged in the case, Koval allegedly ran into the residence, grabbed a gun, then shot at the police, hitting both officers. They are expected to make a full recovery.  

Koval was himself shot several times by police, he was arraigned from his Boston hospital bed July 31st.

His next hearing is scheduled for September 26th.
