BOURNE – Motorists that travel over the Bourne Bridge and around the Bourne Rotary could be seeing some relief from traffic delays in the near future.

Bourne Police Sergeant Brandon Esip says traffic could be back to normal with the lane restrictions possibly ending this weekend.

The lane restrictions have been in place since a tanker crash spilled 5,000 gallons of gas early last week.

Traffic has been effected in Bourne as lane restrictions have been in place over the Bourne Bridge coming onto the Cape and around the Bourne Rotary.

Esip said luckily the traffic has not hindered emergency vehicles.

“We have not seen any impact in the public safety response from [the traffic],” Esip said. “There obviously is an increase in the traffic delays in the area particularly during morning and evening rush hours.”

Esip said the areas that have seen the most traffic from the lane restrictions have been on Route 25 approaching the bridge, and along Sandwich Road and Macarthur Boulevard approaching the rotary.
