BREWSTER – Latham Centers held an open house event on Friday to celebrate the opening of its new 22-bedroom dormitory in Brewster and accept a $3 million loan check from USDA Rural Development.
Construction on the dorm in Brewster started in August 2015 and finished in July with students moving into the new facility in September.
“USDA Rural Development, we’re all about supporting the future of rural communities and this certainly epitomizes those opportunities,” said USDA Rural Development State Director Scott Soares.
The new facility is equipped with separate rooms for students on each floor, with a living room and kitchen.
“It really helps us provide the necessary treatment for these truly challenging kids, so I think it’s critical to our community to have places like Latham to help these really challenging kids get a good start in life,” said Latham Centers President and CEO Anne McManus.
Founded in 1970 in Brewster, Latham Centers operates a residential treatment school for special needs children from ages 8-22 years old.
Latham Centers also operates 11 homes for special needs adults on the Cape, Plymouth and Wareham.
