Lawmakers Schedule Public Health Bills

massachusetts state houseBOSTON (AP) — Massachusetts lawmakers have scheduled a public hearing this week on a slew of public health bills.

The bills include a proposal for more restrictions on tanning booths and legislation that would create a commission to study the health impacts from wind turbines. Another bill would create a second commission to study the health impacts of electromagnetic fields.

Also being considered is a proposal to reduce asthma and other health threats from the emissions of toxic chemicals from cleaning products used in schools, hospitals, day care centers, and public housing.

The bills are among nearly two dozen that will come up before the Legislature’s Public Health Committee at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Statehouse.

Public hearings are a key step for those hoping to get a bill before lawmakers for a vote.
