NANTUCKET – One of the top candidates believed to be on the short list for Hillary Clinton’s vice presidential pick is expected to be on Nantucket Saturday.

Virginia Senator Tim Kaine is scheduled to appear at the Chanticleer for a fundraiser at 5:30 p.m., according to the Boston Globe. Kaine is also set to attend a fundraiser Friday afternoon in Boston.

If Kaine does not appear on Nantucket, it could fuel additional speculation that Clinton will tap the Virginia Democrat as her running mate.

According to the Associated Press, two Democrats familiar with the search say Kaine has emerged as a leading contender.

Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack is still in the mix, according to one of the two Democrats. Both are familiar with the selection process and spoke on the condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to discuss it publicly.

The announcement of Clinton’s pick could come as early as Friday in Florida, a crucial battleground state.

The timing is aimed at shifting attention away from the end of the Republican convention and generating excitement for the start of Clinton’s own convention in Philadelphia, which begins Monday.

Sen. Elizabeth Warren says she’s “probably not” Hillary Clinton’s choice of running mate.

The Massachusetts Democrat says “I think if it were me, I would know it by now.”

Warren made the comment Thursday night during an appearance on “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.”
