SANDWICH – The legislative aide for Sandwich State Representative Randy Hunt is recovering in a Boston hospital after he was stabbed early Sunday morning in the city’s Allston neighborhood.

Matt Liber, 24, was reportedly attacked near a Speedway gas station at Brighton Ave and Linden Street just after midnight.

A social media post from Hunt said that doctors expected him to make a full recovery.

A statement from State Police said that a suspect identified as Ruoding Zhang, 39, of Brookline, was arrested at the scene.

He’s charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon. The circumstances surrounding the stabbing remain under investigation.

Liber has worked for Hunt for the past three years and is a graduate of Boston College.

State Police just happened to be in area at the time of the stabbing.

Trooper Brendan Donovan, a recent graduate of the 83rd Recruit Training Troop, and his field training officer, Trooper Matthew Clark, were on patrol as they passed the gas station.

They observed what appeared to be an altercation, turned around and pulled into the gas station parking lot.

That’s when they discovered Liber had been stabbed.

Boston Police officers arrived on scene, as well as their detectives and crime scene services. Boston EMS transported the victim to Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center for treatment.

While assisting Boston Police with a search of the area, Trooper Donovan located a knife that is believed to be the weapon that was used in the altercation.
