SANDWICH – A legislative breakfast held by the Sandwich Chamber of Commerce on Monday brought in several lawmakers to discuss a range of topics concerning the Cape.

Congressman Bill Keating, State Representative Randy Hunt and State Senator Vinnie deMacedo were present during the event.

Keating says major talking points included medical marijuana, minimum wage and the opioid crisis.

“[The opioid crisis] is costing this country 700 billion dollars every year,” Keating said. “It’s very good this morning to see that people understand the social and economic aspects of this.”

Additionally, the topic of canal bridge replacement or even a third roadway bridge was discussed. Hunt said there is an upcoming meeting between the Army Corps of Engineers and MassDOT to examine recent plans.

“Forgetting who has responsibility or ownership, what we need to do is come up with the best solution approved by both [MassDOT and Army Corps],” Hunt said.

The breakfast took place at the Dan’l Webster Inn.
