LEGO Home-Building Competition Returns This Weekend

HYANNIS – The 5th annual children’s LEGO Home-Building Competition will be held Sunday at Mashpee High School.  The popular event is presented by the Home Builders and Remodelers Association of Cape Cod.

The participants will create their structure in one of two age groups, 5 to 8 and 9 through 12.  Members of each age category will compete to win prizes.

Association Executive Director Diane Pratt said the kids will have a real planning and building experience.  “There will be building inspectors there who will look at the plans of what they’re going to build.  They will issue building and occupancy permits,” she said.

After the competition, Bubbleologist Keith Michael Johnson will present his show called “Bubbleology: The Secret World of Bubbles Revealed”.  Part of the performance will be the creation of both small and giant bubble sculptures.  At one point, a bubble will encapsulate a volunteer from the audience.

Pratt points out that along with being a lot fun, the display is an educational experience.

“He uses it to explain liquids, solids, gasses, geometry, tension and pressure, but he makes it fun,” she said.
