Lifeboat Used in Pendleton Rescue on Display at Chatham Inn

CHATHAM – The 36-foot “CG36500” lifeboat used in the famous 1952 Chatham Coast Guard rescue mission of the tanker “Pendleton” will be displayed at the Chatham Bars Inn from January 29^th through 31^st.

The exhibition is part of a “mini-museum” dedicated to that rescue, which was recorded by a book and recently made into a Disney motion picture by the same name.

“The Finest Hours” has its national premiere on the big screen January 29^th.

The lifeboat was decommissioned in 1968 and, according to the Orleans Historical Society, was largely forgotten for years.

The boat was acquired by the society in 1981 and was fully restored. When not on display at special exhibits, the craft can be found at its berths in Orleans.
