Liquor Officials to Investigate after Man Falls from Cruise

BOSTON (AP) — State officials will investigate whether alcohol laws were violated on a Boston Harbor cruise where a 21-year-old man fell overboard and died.

The Boston Globe reports that the Alcoholic Beverage Control Commission said Monday it will investigate. Kris Foster, general counsel of the agency, wouldn’t provide details about the investigators, but said it generally looks for violations, like people being overserved.

Aaron Dibella’s body was found early Sunday, hours after he fell overboard from the Provincetown II ship during a party cruise.

The company that owns the boat said Dibella had been “engaging in horseplay” before falling.

Michael Glasfeld is the owner of the company. He says it hasn’t had a liquor violation in more than 15 years and doesn’t believe “the investigation into this tragic event will result in one either.”

The Provincetown II is a non high-speed ferry that is usually used for charters and not the run between Provincetown to Boston. An internet posting showed the boat was hosting an end of season “Tropical Boat Party.”
