WEST BARNSTABLE – An unusual event next month will see live music inspire art.
Artists, students and musicians with the Cape Youth Orchestra will collaborate to present “Inspired” on May 1 at Cape Cod Community College at 6:45 p.m.
Local artists and art students will showcase original 2-D and video art inspired by live music performed by the Cape Youth Orchestra and Debut Strings and Winds.
The music will feature works by Antonín Dvořák, Edvard Grieg and excerpts from Romeo and Juliet by Tchaikovsky.
A mural response to the music will be painted by local artist Laura Balboni Craciun and Cape Cod Community College’s culinary services will provide small bites inspired by the music to enjoy during the performance.
Before the concert, the Director of Community Outreach and Education for the Cape Conservatory Christy King will host a pre-concert talk from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. to explore the impact of freedom of expression on music, specifically Shostakovich’s Symphony No. 5, which will be performed by the Cape Symphony on May 6 and 7.
Inspired and the Cape Symphony performance are both part of ArtSpring Cape Cod, which is a grass roots celebration of arts and culture featuring dozens of events across the Cape from April 27 through May 7.
