Lobster Pot Restaurant Offering Franchise Opportunities

PROVINCETOWN – The dining experience at the iconic Lobster Pot Restaurant may soon be something you can experience beyond Cape Cod.

The Commercial Street restaurant, which has been open for nearly 40 years, is looking to expand through franchising opportunities.

“Rather than opening up another restaurant, this is a way of expanding our brand but still keep the home base intact,” said Tim McNulty, the owner and chef of the Lobster Pot.

Franchisees will receive training from McNulty and staff to replicate the Lobster Pot menu, service and ambiance in other locations.

McNulty says the motivation is to share the experience of the Lobster Pot in other areas of New England and the northeast.

“We understand there is not going to be another Commercial Street and waterfront Lobster Pot like in Provincetown, but the theories and the base of it we feel can be taught to the right people – hard workers and passionate people,” McNulty said.

The Lobster Pot is seeking franchisees in the region because it is a new venture and McNulty believes it would be helpful to have them close to home.

“We also want people who are interested in developing one of these buying from the same companies we are buying from and the same products we are buying,” he said. “They can get lobsters from the same guy I get lobsters from.”

McNulty said they could be a support team and travel to and from the franchises more easily.

“We have figured out through doing it wrong for so long on how to do it right,” McNulty said.

The idea for expansion began after constantly hearing from customers over the years that they would like a Lobster Pot closer to their home.

McNulty said they are still in the early stages of the process.

“We’re just starting the offerings,” he said. “We’ve had lots of people interested but there is nothing concrete yet.”

McNulty hopes to have one or two locations open by the end of the year.
